3 Signs That You Need To Call An Electrician

Posted on: 19 September 2016

The electrical wiring in your house is vital to the functioning of your home. However, if the electrical panels and wiring aren't done right, it can also pose a safety hazard in the house. This is why it is so important to know when you should be calling an electrician. When it comes to electricity, it is better to err on the side of caution since it can be very dangerous to the house and everyone in it if something were to go wrong. Here are some instances where you should be contacting an electrician.

1. The Outlets Are Far Apart So You Need To Use Extension Cords

If you live in an older home you are probably using extension cords all over your house. You may not have enough outlets in the house so you are using cords that provide more outlets, and putting extension cords under rugs and by the walls. This should be avoided if at all possible. If there were to be a spark in the extension cord, which happens if there is hole or scratch on the cord, it could cause a house fire. Instead, it is better to have an electrician add more outlets to the house so that you can plug things in right next to the wall.

2. The Breaker Keeps Tripping

The way the breaker and outlets are designed is that they will shut off if there is too much power in the area. This means that if the breakers are continually tripping there is too much power and it can be dangerous. Rather than continually flipping the breaker, talk to an electrician about possible causes. This will be safer seeing that the cause could be potentially dangerous.

3. Lights Are Dimming

Another sign that you should be watching out for is if the lights are dimming when you turn on appliances or the TV. This is not normal and should be attended to. Instead, you should be able to use the same amount of power in your appliances and lights without one affecting the other. The concern is that this problem is not just a annoyance, it could actually damage your wiring and expensive equipment over time. This is why you should call an electrician to make sure that the problem doesn't persist.

If you notice any of these problems, or if you are concerned about any electrical problem in your house, call an electrician (like those at Advantage Electric) right away.

Talking About Electrician Services

Hi all, I’m Josiah. Welcome to my site about electrician services. When I was living in a home built in the 1940s, I came across a number of troublesome wiring issues. The wiring was old and in a state of serious disrepair. When I plugged in more than three electronics on the power strip, the breaker would blow and shut down my entire system. I had the entire home rewired to rectify this problem once and for all. My site will cover all sorts of electrician upgrades and repairs. I invite you to visit often to learn about upgrades to use for your own home.
