3 Tips For Troubleshooting Your Driveway's Automatic Gate That Refuses To Open

Posted on: 24 April 2018

While trying to exit your driveway, you may have discovered that your automatic gate does not open. If so, use the following tips for troubleshooting your gate to try to find a simple solution to the problem.

Replace the Batteries in Your Remote

One possible reason why your automatic gate refuses to open when you press the button is that the batteries in the remote control are either running low or dead. The batteries may still have some juice in them, but it might not be enough to relay the signal from the remote to the sensors on the gate's relay box.

Even if you do not think it has been too long since the last time you changed the batteries, replace them with new ones to see if they are the culprit. If the gate still will not operate, go on to the next section to check for a possible manual cause.

Inspect the Tracks for a Blockage

After ruling out low batteries in your gate's remote control, inspect the tracks for anything that may be blocking its path. Something as small as a branch or rock laying inside the track can send a message to the gate's automatic opener that there is something blocking the path. If this happens, the gate will not open to keep from damaging either the panels or the tracks.

Even if you do not see anything inside the gate's tracks, take a stiff broom and sweep them out to make sure. If this still does not allow the gate to open, move to the control box to check the settings.

Check the Release Mode Setting

While looking at the control box, see if the release mode setting is switched to manual mode. Manual mode is used whenever the power goes out so that you can open the gate without damaging the wires or tracks.

However, if you try to use your remote to open your gate while it is set in manual mode, it will not work because the electricity is temporarily disrupted. If the gate is not set in manual mode, it is possible that your gate may have a more serious issue.

If you have performed the above tasks, you may not find the problem with your automatic gate, making you suspect that there could be a broken wire or other electrical issue at fault. If so, contact an electrician who offers gate repair services to have them inspect your automatic gate's wiring to determine the problem and offer solutions for getting it working again. Talking About Electrician Services

Hi all, I’m Josiah. Welcome to my site about electrician services. When I was living in a home built in the 1940s, I came across a number of troublesome wiring issues. The wiring was old and in a state of serious disrepair. When I plugged in more than three electronics on the power strip, the breaker would blow and shut down my entire system. I had the entire home rewired to rectify this problem once and for all. My site will cover all sorts of electrician upgrades and repairs. I invite you to visit often to learn about upgrades to use for your own home.
