How Much Does A Furnace Repair Cost?

Posted on: 7 September 2019

You'll always want to make sure that you have enough money for furnace repairs for the event where your furnace breaks down. Otherwise, you might find your family freezing during the coldest moments of the year. While some furnace repairs can cost a thousand dollars, other repairs might only cost a few hundred.

Furnace Motors

The most expensive type of repair is when you must replace the motor. This can range from hundreds of dollars to almost $2,000. Because of how expensive a furnace motor can be to replace, you might find a repair to be a better idea.

Igniters

Faulty igniters are the next most expensive to repair. They can cost about $300-500 dollars. The igniter is responsible for starting the combustion process where the fuel source is burned to generate heat.

Thermostats

The thermostat is the next least expensive. Some thermostats can be as little as $20. However, if you are using a more advanced model, it can cost as much as $250. The thermostat causes the furnace to cycle on and off based on the temperature.

Flame Sensors

Flame sensors sometimes need to be replaced and can cost between $100 and $300 dollars. The flame sensor is used in gas furnaces to determine if the gas valve is open or not.

Heat Exchangers and Draft Inducers

A heat exchanger can cost $100 to repair. However, it will cost much more to replace. The heat exchanger is used to move the heat from the furnace to other areas of your home. The draft inducer can cost anywhere from $150 to $500 to replace and works alongside the heat exchanger.

Pressure Boards and Sensor Circuits

The pressure board and sensor circuit is not that expensive to replace, at $50. This is a safety device designed to detect negative pressure and take the necessary precautions to avoid safety risks.

Gas Valves

Replacing a gas valve can cost between $150-200. Replacing the smart valve costs $750-800. The gas valve allows natural gas to enter your furnace. A defective gas valve can lead to gas entering the furnace when not desired, creating a safety risk.

Repairing your furnace is less expensive than replacing it. However, you also have to take into consideration the accruing costs that result from having to make routine repairs. Therefore, if you feel like you are making too many repairs to your furnace, you'll want to instead turn to a furnace repair specialist.

Talking About Electrician Services

Hi all, I’m Josiah. Welcome to my site about electrician services. When I was living in a home built in the 1940s, I came across a number of troublesome wiring issues. The wiring was old and in a state of serious disrepair. When I plugged in more than three electronics on the power strip, the breaker would blow and shut down my entire system. I had the entire home rewired to rectify this problem once and for all. My site will cover all sorts of electrician upgrades and repairs. I invite you to visit often to learn about upgrades to use for your own home.
